From the original linocut (c. 1930). Printed from 2 blocks: Venetian red and viridian. Power’s runners seem as if propelled towards their finishing line by abstract curving lines behind them. The lines might also be taken to echo the runner’s strides; and the marks on the ground each contestant makes are like springs which further propel each runner.
