This painting in Graham Isom’s Racecourses of the United Kingdom series features the beautiful course at York. York was the winner of the Racecourse of the Year award in 2003 and was host to the Royal Meeting in 2005 whilst Ascot was being redeveloped.
The Tote Ebor Festival takes place at York in August and this highlight of the sporting summer includes some of the most impressive and enjoyable flat racing of the year. Specifically, Graham Isom’s painting is a depiction of Mozart’s victory in the Victor Chandler Nunthorpe Stakes at York on August 23rd 2001. Ridden by Mick Kinane, the Aidan O’Brien-trained colt was odds-on for the showpiece race on the final day of the Ebor meeting. He thoroughly lived up to his billing to defeat a field of ten runners over five furlongs and to secure victory by two lengths. Previous winner, Nuclear Debate, was second under Gerard Mosse, and Bishops Court, ridden by Kieren Fallon, was third. Mozart’s triumph represented the third leg of a fantastic York treble for Aidan O'Brien's Coolmore team; the Irish yard having also won Wednesday's Ebor with the Mediterranean, and the Gimcrack with Rock of Gibraltar.
Limited edition goutelette print.
