Sir Peter Blake - Fine Art Bits

Revisiting his 1959 mixed media piece "The Fine Art Bit" Blake explores ideas about art and its reproduction. The boldly-coloured stripes relate to everyday images such as flags, packaging and signage. He juxtaposes them with a traditional idea of ‘high art’, represented by a frieze of postcard reproductions of art works from the past. The images are of paintings by Thomas Gainsborough, Diego Valazquez, Johannes Vermeer and Stanley Spencer.
